Xiuhpohualli
Year:
2023

This piece is inspired by the Xiuhpohualli ("year count") the 365-day solar calendar used by the Aztecs and other Nahua peoples in ancient Mexico, tracking agricultural cycles and seasons, comprising 18 months of 20 days each, plus a final 5 unlucky days (Nemontemi). It is also a clock marking 12 hours, and it tells us a story of how time is a construct with the clock hands intertwined, a reminder that nothing stays the same and everything changes.
